The Effect of College Women¢¥s Self-Concept and Health Beliefs on the Practice of Breast Self--Examination

Abstract
This study was undertaken in order to investigate the effect of college women¢¥s self-concept and health-beliefs on the practice of breast self-examination.
The subjects of this study consisted of 165 college women in Youngju.
Data was collected from June 2. to June 5., 1987 using the questionnaire method and was analyzed by use of means, standard deviations, Pearson correlation coefficient and step-wise multiple regression analysis.
The findings were as follows:
1. There were significant correlation noted between college women¢¥s practice of breast self-examination and health-beliefs (r=.2104, p=.003), self-concept (r=.3012, p=.042), susceptibility (r=.2198, p=.002) and benefit (r=.2021, p=,005).
2. There was significant correlation noted between health-beliefs and self-concept (r=.301, p=.003).
3. Of the 4 independent variables (self-concept, susceptibility, severity, benefit), self-concept, benefit, susceptibility are closely related to college women¢¥s practice of breast self-examination (26.12%).
Therefore these variables could be used as determinants to predict and modify the practice of breast self-examination.
